i saw vestigial in a commit message once, and on looking up what it meant, it took root not just in commit messages of mine, but named something i find strangely affecting.
and so this: a flight of locks down a field, but no canal. not even a ditch. i can’t explain why, but the encounter was profound n– scrambling down the flight, seeing the what-was-underwater detail, thoughts expanding to the topology, [1] a very small remnant of something that was once greater, [2] having become functionless in the course of evolution.
